Car Carrier feared sunk after collision off Dutch coast

A major rescue operation is under way in the North Sea tonight following the a collision between two cargo vessels.

The vehicle Carrier Baltic Ace is reported to have sunk.

Dutch coastguard helicopters and lifeboats are on the scene and have winched some crew members to safety from the vessels life rafts.

The second vessel involved in the incident, Cargo carrier Corvus J, is also reported to be badly damaged although is not in danger of sinking. We are still tracking this vessel live  on Ship Finder Р

Rescue operations are reportedly hampered by high seas and freezing water in the area.

Earlier this afternoon we saw Baltic Ace leave Zeebrugge bound for Kotka, Finland –

Corvus J was on her way from Grangemouth, Scotland to the port of Antwerp in Belgium.
