Clipper Round the World Yacht Race | Penultimate leg underway
The fleet of yachts for the Clipper 11-12 round the World Yacht Race set off on their penultimate leg this afternoon.
The image below from the marine traffic app Ship Finder shows the teams leaving Derry.
This is leg 14 of the epic race. The yachts are destined for Den Helder in The Netherlands, a voyage of around 800 miles.
This photo of the home team was captured in the Solent at the start of the race way back in July 2011!
Gold Coast Australia has already secured enough points to win the race but the remainder of the positions can still be claimed.
The fleet is expected to arrive in the Den Helder between 11-13 July.
Following that the fleet will set off on its final race back to Southampton on 19 July for the race finish in the Solent on Sunday 22 July.
